About Us
Distillery By The Sea...
The Portsmouth Distillery Co. is a premium artisan spirit producer. Established in 2018, our home is in the fabulous eighteenth century Bastion of Fort Cumberland. Located on the southeastern tip of Portsea Island – surrounded by the Sea and Centuries of naval history.
We produce a range of spirits for your enjoyment. Buy through our online shop, in person at the Fort or at one of the many events we’re exhibiting at. We’re passionate about the artisan spirit movement and giving Portsmouth it’s own distillery for the first time in hundreds of years.
Sharing Our Spirit
We love our unique home. You’ll find Portsmouth Distillery on the south-eastern tip of Portsea Island, near the Hayling Ferry, surrounded by the sea, based inside the historic 18th-century Fort Cumberland, an Historic England property.
We’re proud to be part of the fort’s revival, having refurbished six casements and an ancient powder casement once used to store naval weaponry.
In 2024 following some commercial challenges, Portsmouth Distillery entered an exciting new chapter, being taken over by the RRS Group, a Portsmouth-based business that also owns Stargazey Spirits, Wrecking Coast and Verdant Spirits, bringing fresh energy and ambition while keeping our roots firmly local.
Today, we’re not just a working distillery, but a destination, offering tours, cocktail masterclasses, Gin & Rum School, and live events, alongside tastings in our bar.
