A wonderful experience tour of Portsmouth Distillery
An extremely interesting and knowledgeable guide, Giles, who is one of the founders, leads the tour. You will learn how gin and rum are made and, most importantly, have the chance to taste nearly everything they offer. I highly recommend this tour as a great way to support a local Portsmouth business. Our favourites were the 1968 white rum and the Fort gin.

So much better than the huge industrial level tours you can do.
You can't even see the fort from the road and its great that the first 20 mins of the tour is a proper history lesson about the place, so interesting and I could have spent ages walking around there.
The tour itself takes you into where the Gin and Rum is made, an in-depth talk about how they come to the recipes they have. Then into the area where the bottling is done and labelling (all by hand), again more really interesting information about what goes on to get it from tanks to market
The next part was excellent, a chance to try 6 gins and rums, all have their own characteristics and flavours. Not rushed at all and no hard sell to buy in the shop. Finished on the bar for our complimentary drink and you can choose any that you tasted. Popped into the shop for a couple of bottles and after a couple of hours we were finished.
Fort Cumberland itself is a gem, the tour fantastic and I would urge anyone to go and try it

Great tour - took my dad for Father’s Day as gift as loves rum. Clear passion and going into detail on the process for both equipment used and ingredients sourced. Hidden gem is the garden fort rum which blends the botanicals style of gin with rum 🍹!

A fantastic afternoon learning all about the process of making Gin and Rum, a small distillery which I have no doubt will go far. There gin was delicious and there rum was just as good. Jackie was very knowledgeable about the Gin, Rum and Fort. Josh answered every question thrown at him. Will definitely retire and recommend

Discovered one of Portsmouth's best kept secrets in Fort Cumberland. Welcoming and friendly staff in such a historic location. Tried all the spirits they have on offer.
Don't be put off by the main gate, just buzz to pass through.
Thoroughly recommend visiting Vince, Giles and Co. Will be back when their newer spirits are available. Look forward to returning.
