This exquisite rum really sees The Portsmouth Distillery enter into the realms of premium aged rum. Aged in bourbon casks for five years, less than 100m from the sea in Fort Cumberland. It is made from scratch using sugar cane syrup (made on site from sugar can juice from Costa Rica), each bottling of 1747 is a single cask release: disgorged, diluted, filtered and bottled to maintain the 100% organic purity of the spirit.
On the nose and the palate the influence of the oak now matches the bourbon, with rich aromas of over ripe bananas and tropical fruits. Initially on the palate there is an intense sweetness of nutty caramel, turning delicately into rich dark chocolate, leaving a very pleasant lingering softness which caresses the tongue.
